I am usually a pretty decisive person.

Usually.

But this Spring, I found myself in—dare I say—a pickle.

I was unsure about if I wanted to start my graduate studies this Fall or if I should wait until a time when things felt more settled.

I have known that I wanted to do this program since my sophomore year of college, but I had no idea when or how I would do it.

About six months ago, I started a job at Biola. It has been a great fit for me. One benefit of working in higher education is that you can often get a discount on tuition.

Unfortunately, the program I felt the Lord was drawing me to was not covered by this discount that would have applied to other programs.

So my plan to start the following Fall suddenly did not feel responsible. Mostly because my husband and I were just getting settled after graduating from college and getting settled. Living in Orange County is expensive and it felt irresponsible to start before we felt ready.

But I started thinking about it more and having conversations with my husband about it, and there were a few compelling reasons why starting sooner rather than later would be smart. Mainly, we do not know how long we are going to live in California and with a full-time job, there is really never going to be a convenient time to start.

I remember talking to my spiritual director about my indecision and she encouraged me to gently move forward if I felt like that was where the Lord was calling me.

Fast forward to now, I have paid my deposit to start my program in September and I am so excited. As a cherry on top, the Lord has abundantly provided for me through scholarships to take down my cost of attendance a ridiculous amount.

I say all of this to encourage you if you are in the midst of making a difficult decision, that a path is formed by walking. Let me explain what I mean by that.
